Put any and all ideas here.

Whiteboarded discussion on 10.11.2011:

Curriculum/ Pedagogy:
Common core/universal standards, common assessments, project/inquiry-based learning, student input on sub-topics covered

Vision/ Goals

Curriculum/ Pedagogy: Place a greater emphasis on social constructivism and collaboration

Learning Spaces: Multi-function classrooms with open “work spaces,” partitioned walls to allow for multi room collaboration, tech resources everywhere, teacher/facilitator “command stations” to monitor student digital work

Sustaining: (we left this blank)

We need to cover the following topics
  • Curriculum and Pedagogy
    • Rachel, Bryce
  • Designing the Class Room
    • Brian, Carmen
  • Sustaining the Initiative
    • All of us

Do we want to just have a page for each of the 3 topics above and that is it? I looked at the example from Karen's web page and each topic had something like 8 subtopics all with their own page including an introduction and summary section. I'm not saying we have to follow this exactly, but 3 pages may not cut it. Here is the link

I may have a good resource for the sustainability portion of this project. It's a webinar, I will forward everyone the email. I have class at the time of the webinar, but my IT guy is going to attend and try to record it. It might be helpful if at least one person from this group attended in case he cannot record it. Just a thought.

Wow, Karen's web page was intense! Do you think we need that much? I like the idea of a page per topic. Bryce: We agreed to use Karen's formatting, we just have to figure out how to do it and what the subtopics should be.
  1. Curriculum and Pedagogy Subtopics
    • Constructivism
    • Connectivism
    • Common Core Standards/Assessments
  2. Designing Class Room Subtopics:
    • ?
  3. Sustaining the Initiative:
    • ?

I took the liberty of beginning our project's wiki--used our first name initials to create our firm (please feel free to change). I don't know how to create a table of contents so all text isn't scrolling on one page, like Karen's. I could probably add to the sustaining section. I will try to think of more this weekend. I am behind on submitting pages to one of my dissertation chapters, due end of the week, so I might not be too flexible with this class this week. Sorry. -BRYCE
--You did carve out a lot of work for yourself. We all ought to be able to contribute, since it's a common grade. I was able to figure out the wiki last time and can look into creating a better navigation system. Have we all got moderator privileges? -RACHEL

Below is my interpretation of deadlines? I think the question was posed to Karen---we actually submit papers to her?

LET’S BRAINSTORM!!! -Brian Might I suggest we each pick a unique color to type with. I’ll use blue.
20 Oct (12.42pm) Carmen=purple. I made edits and added my section. Let me know what you all think. I didn’t delete language that was already written if you want me to delete my edits. Added my source.

Here is an interesting resource __http://mindshift.kqed.org/2011/01/school-day-of-the-future-learning-in-2025/__

I thought it might help gain perspective, if we also look at what America could possibly look like in 2025

-while standardized tests will continue to be important, the way in which information is presented will change. More emphasis should be placed on fields that include technology, such as experimental science and engineering.

-Language arts education will continue to be important; however, more use should be made of tools for online collaboration and research. Curated online searches and RSS feeds will help students create their own trail of ideas.

Video showing a successful 1:1 initiative that turned around a failing school. Exams, lectures and classwork all take place on school-provided laptops synchronized to the teacher's system. More of this forseen in future.
